Hello everyone! Today, we’ll be discussing a role-playing video game that has some great mechanical benefits. Today, we’ll be talking about the dnd5e calm emotion spellIt is what it sounds like in a certain manner, but the name makes it sound even more sinister. It can be used both by the Bard and the Cleric. If you really think about it, it makes perfect sense. Guide for old players. In any case if you haven’t check out our other spells list yet then please visit this page. Now let’s move along to the mechanics and kind of talk about this dnd 5e spell a little bit more.
- Level: 2nd
- Casting time1 Action
- Range/Area: 60 ft (20 ft Radius)
- Components:V, S
- Duration:1 Minute (Concentration).
- Attack/Save: CHA Save
Cast time is one act. It can be cast up to 60 feet. The effect area is only 20 feet. The effect takes only one minute. It requires concentration. The Verbal and somatic componentsIt is a gesture you make with one arm, and an incantation.
The It works! It is easy to see that it looks like this: A charisma (CHA) is a characteristic that each humanoid with a variety of abilities must have, except for the failure to save. You can choose one of two effects to be applied to your target: To fear or charm any target, and suppress any effect that might cause harm. This is truly amazing.
Or, you could try the second. Your target should show no animus towards the creatures it is hostile. If the target is subject to a spell or its friends are hurt, this indifference can end.It is logically sound. Within that brief summary out of the way let’s take a look at its full description so you can just establish a better idea of how the spell actually functions.
In this d&d Calm Emotions 5e spell you do attempt to suppress the strong emotions in a specific group of people. Each humanoid must make charisma saving throws within a 20-foot radius. The creature has the option to either fail or succeed at this saving throw. It can choose from one of these effects if it fails to make its save throw.
It is possible to easily stop any effect that causes a target’s fear or charm. Whenever this spell ends and any suppressed effect resumes, provided which its duration hasn’t been expired in a meantime.

Alternately, the target can be made indifferent towards hostile creatures. The target will lose this indifference if it is victim to a spell or its friends are hurt. Unless otherwise ruled out by the DM, the creature is hostile once more after the spell ends.
This is fantastic stuff. I really like it needless to say there’s a ton of role-playing potential here but also worth noting both of the charmed and frightened conditions are two of the most detrimental conditions that can really just change the entire scope of the combat you’re running, literally changes everything. So this spell’s ability to get those two conditions is awesome and of itself and being able to stop aggression is also pretty at dang sweet.
Now, let’s move along to some alternative uses.
The first one i would like to point out in 5e calm emotions uses section is this is incredibly useful if you know you’re going up against things they can charm or frighten people. These abilities are often used by fake charms or undead to attract people. So, i just think it’s always good to have in your back pocket.
Another way to use it is to calm hostility to make arrangements and forge friendships. one of my favorite things to do in D&D is to actually put the party in fairly awkward circumstances where they didn’t, inherently do anything wrong but they’re still being punished regardless. If you feel the need to frame them, this is an option. This spell could be used to disperse high-attention situations.
Side note: This spell can be dangerous for dungeonmasters to use. What i mean by that is let’s say you’re facing and a big bad. You know it’s all on the line you just wanna to fight him, take him to the ground you’re tired of them. He pushes and rubs your nose before hitting you with calm emotions. He then relaxes and pours himself tea. Then, he waves at you for a while.
As soon as it ends you recast, i just think it’d be hilarious. There’s nothing in this spell about remaking that charisma save at any point, so once it’s decided you’re stuck with it unless naturally you can get harmed.
