The Cyclone Warning Division (IMD), India Meteorological Department, warned that the Arabian Sea Depression will likely intensify from May 16 to May 19. This is cyclone Tauktae. IMD stated that in the next 36 hour, severe cyclonic conditions could form on the Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep Islands.

Three districts in Kerala and Lakshadweep are the first to be affected by cyclone Tauktae. Five other districts in Kerala will follow. Thiruvananthapuram is among the districts on alert. IMD states that the Konkan region in Goa and Maharashtra will see more rain on Friday and Saturday. This is expected to continue through Sunday.
