Today we’re gonna be taking a look at dnd 5e search thoughts spellIt is possible with the Bard, SorcererAnd WizardIt is located in the Handbook for PlayersIt is exactly as you would expect. In any case let’s get on to the mechanics here. We recommend that you visit our spells home page if you haven’t checked it out yet!
- Level: 2nd
- Casting time1 Action
- Components: V, S, M *
- Duration:1 Minute (Concentration).
- Attack/Save:WIS Save
- Damage/Effect: Detection
Cast time is the one-action standard. Technically, the distance is self. However, the effect area is actually thirty feet away. It takes just one minute to focus. The components are Verbal, Material and Somatic, if you’re curious about that verbal component it is a copper piece it, it is not consumed in the spell and it is kind of a meant to play on the penny for your thoughts kind of phrase. You must use only one hand to perform gestures or incantation. The school of divination is a lot more intuitive.
The EffectIt is simple to see the main points.
Effect: Listen to the thoughts of a creature. You can ask it to switch targets or probe deeper. If the target probes deeper, it will save Wisdom if the spell succeeds.
Now let’s look at the full description that better understand this spell. This spell is going be quite long.
For a limited time, you can read the thoughts and feelings of certain creatures. As long as you cast a spell, you can focus your attention on any creature within 30 yards of yourself. If the Intelligence of the creature that you choose is less than 3, or if the creature does not speak any type of language, it will not be affected.

You’re initially learn a surface thoughts of a creature- but what is most on its mind within that moment. But as an action, you are either able to shift your attention to an another creature’s thoughts or else an attempt to probe deeper into a similar creature’s mind. If you look deeper, you must find the target making wisdom saving throws. If it fails, you will be able to gain insight into the target’s reasoning, emotional state, and other thoughts that may be weighing on its mind (such as love, worries, or hatreds). If it succeeds, the spell will be ended. Either any way, the taget can know that you’re basically probe into its mind, and of course unless you do shift your attention for an another creature’s thoughts, of course the creature is able to use its action on its turn to make an Intelligence check contested with your Intelligence check if it succeeds, the spell will end.
Here some questions are verbally directed at a target creature naturally shape a course of its thoughts, so as per this spell is specifically effective as part of an interrogation.
This spell can detect the presence or absence of thinking creatures you are unable to see. Cast the spell and you can search up to 30 feet from the thought creatures. You can use the spell to penetrate any barrier you choose, but it will only work on rock 2 feet in length or 2 inches of any metal other than lead. A thin sheet of lead can block your path. So that you can not detect a creature with an Intelligence of 3 or else lower or even one which doesn’t speak any language.
Once you’ve detected the presence of a creature in this manner, you can read its thoughts and the rest as we have described. It must be visible even if it’s not there.
This is the one I find least enjoyable to read. In any case there’s a lot you can do but the biggest takeaway read someone’s thought using an action to probe deeper switch targets. This can be used to detect invisible creatures. Although in the beginning it says you really can’t. Although it may sound odd, it is the truth. Keep this in mind.

Now let’s go to some fun stuff some alternative uses.
There are other uses
So it already mentions in terry so i can’t really use that one because kind of a direct use. But in terms of my indirect uses this would be a good way to figure out of someone’s lying to, like an important figure for example a king, queen, noble or even just a quest giver. It’s really if anytime it’s important to know that what you’re being told is trustworthy and reliable. This spell is extremely useful. As mentioned, it is very useful against invisible foes. You would also be able to include ghosts or spectres. That you don’t quite know where they’re I think it’s incredible, i really do love this spell.
