All adventurers, regardless of size or shape: Welcome to my Race Series. Today we’ll be talking despre d&d 5e dwarf race. These characters are well-represented in fantasy fiction. They were very popular among the gimli because of their lordship of rings. Even the other games like skyrim kind of made the dwarfs super popular although they’re not really in skyrim it’s really really weird with the dwemer and everything else. Doesn’t really pertain to 5e but in terms of dungeons and dragons as a whole dwarfs have been staple for certainly longer than i’ve been alive to be fair so a while now. Now let’s dive into their naming conventions of first and foremost. Here are some examples for male and female names.lan names.
Naming Conventions
The dwarf’s name has been granted by the clan elder, in an accordance with the tradition. Each proper name of a dwarf is valid. Some generations may also reject them. Actually, a dwarf’s names is more belongs to the clan, but not to the individual. Normally, a dwarf who has misuses or else brings shame to the clan name’s has been stripped of the name and also forbidden by the law for using any dwarven name It is the best place.

Now let’s take a look at some of their traits.
Traits
Referring to AgeThey grow at the same pace as hmans. Some dwarfs and other long-lived species may consider them young, even though they live to 50. They can live for up to three hundred fifty years (or 350 depending on how many they have. Needless to say they’re one of the more long-lived races in dnd most fantasy genres as well. You can make this into a character.
This allows you to create characters that have a long life expectancy and can absorb lots of knowledge. But, can still deal with all the tribulations and pains of adventuring. So the age really isn’t huge constraint unless you’re playing a 349 year old dwarf. I’m sure there’s a lot of role play opportunity that comes with that. However i haven’t seen it happen and i’ve played quite a few games.
So i don’t know if you want to go for it let me know how it goes down beneath i’m always curious for that kind of stuff.
It is, however, a positive thing for Size between four and five feet tall and they’re an average of about 150 pounds and your size is considered medium. It’s pretty well known dwarfs are short and stocky not super surprising. You can make dwarfs heavier if you wish. Kind of like what they did with the hobbit trilogy i forget the one dwarf snail but he’s quite large so you could do something like that i suppose.
And Alignment i debated putting this in i’m gonna roll with it just because the book mentions it but alignment is an optional rule you don’t have to use it but this kind of makes sense. On the other hand, Dwarfs are generally law-abiding, and believe in the positive benefits of a well-ordered society. They can also be too generous.
It is easy to see the order in which most dwarven villages are represented. The dwarfs are primarily artisans. They compare their sizes. Their experience isn’t the only thing that affects their size. It also influences the quality and skill of the craft they practice.
The society would be almost meritocratic, with more senses than the rest. It is therefore logical that they would be legal. The dwarfs are likely to be greedy when it comes to their desire for the good. Like the lords and ladies of the rings. They dug too deep and they discovered something that probably you shouldn’t have.
This could be a role that you would like to play in your own characters. My opinion is that you would be a better source to provide that kind of backstory and character flaw. But it is ultimately up to the creator.
Now let’s take a look at some mechanics here.
Mechanics
This means that dwarfs have a plus two to constitution. There really isn’t a reason to not want constitution, csaters really benefit from it because it goes a long way towards concentration. It can also be used in martial arts classes. It improves their health, and it allows them to save money.
Their speed is 25 feet and that is walking of course and a lot of people look down on that anything less than 30 feet kind of viewed as sub-optimal and there’s a little bit of truth to that you can bridge that gap pretty quickly with a few class features and even a couple feats as well.
The best part about the dwarven move, however, is that it doesn’t get reduced by heavy armor. So, if the armor has a number attached to it in terms of the strength you need whether it’s 13, 16 whatever and you done it without having that strength requirement there’s a movement penalty imposed on you. If memory serves it’s 10 feet which is honestly something i personally always forget about. It’s really cool that they don’t have to worry about that so you could potentially wear some armor you probably shouldn’t be able to there would be more than likely some other downsides to doing that.
But it is possible and it’s really interesting that they get that. It is understandable that you can read, write, and speak both common and dwarven languages.
It is possible to have darkness vision. This is a wonderful idea. Most depictions of dwarves have them mining or living within mountains things of that nature so it make sense that they’d adapt. So it’s up to 60 feet you see the dim light as if it was bright light and a darkness as if it was dim light. Now if you’re looking in darkness however you can’t see colors. Only two options are available: black and white.
Usually, it doesn’t factor into the game but it’s still worth bringing up just in case the DM has a puzzle involving colors. But let’s take a look at their other traits and they do have a few and i’ve something to bring up about one of them in particular but. Let’s dive into it.
Other Characteristics
First of all, we have Resistance of DwarvenThis gives them an advantage over poison damage resistance and protects against poison. This is a very useful feature, especially at the beginning of the campaign. You’ll see a lot of beasts in particular namely the insects. They can cause poisoning in your body, even rats. So it’s really good to be able to deal with that and it might help improve your tankiness and overall survivability.
Internet access is now possible Combat and dwarven instruction. So you’ve proficiency with the battleaxe, handaxe, light hammerThe warhammer. This applies to any class. So even if you’re playing a caster and for whatever reason you run into spell slots or spells aren’t super effective against something you do have an extra set of abilities to fall back on just in case.
Unter Tool proficiency You can choose between smithing supplies or brewer’s tools. Now in terms of which one’s better than the other it honestly all depends on your campaign, all depends on the DM and all depends on just your character in general. Smith tools are my favorite for martial classes. These tools may be an excellent choice for sneakier builds. assassinsYou can take, for example. If you can remove a keystone from a bridge or something along those lines calling causing it to collapse that’d be a pretty cool use for it under brewer supplies and bard’s the first thing that comes to mind just because you know alcohol and all that good stuff and along the alcohol concept you can really play into over consuming because you have advantage on those poison saves right and you have a boost to con which si really nice too. So it’ll put you in a little bit of an advantage should you find yourself in a drinking contest.
However my favorite trait the dwarves get and the one i see almost no one uses which is just baffling to me because there’s so many cool opportunities for it. It’s stone cunning haven’t heard of it ran over it probably it’s not one i see actively discussed whole lot. It’s one i like to play into though and i’ll tell you why in a little bit.
So, if you’re unfamiliar stone cunning whenever you make a history check regarding to really anything stone related you have double proficiency with it. So if you’re just starting out your proficiency bonus is two and then you just double it. It basically grants expertise in the subject.
It is great because you can roll higher. You will need to inspect stonework when you have to. If you’re tracking something in a dungeon or in a castle or you’re trying to detect traps in stone walls or anything along those lines. This is a brilliant idea. I had one campaign that involved a demon living in walls. A stone cunning test was also done. I basically revealed the bbeg kind of technically they didn’t really pick up on my hints.
But i was about as clear as i could have been without outright saying there’s a demon living in these walls you know like i described how the stones have slight traces of sulfur and show signs of charring and decaying and stuff like that but they didn’t really pick up on it i don’t know adventurously is a weird place guys.
They were wealthy in their old grandeur. You could hear them echoing in the mountain roots and hearing the hammers in deep mines. These common threads unify all the dwarves.
Short and strong
This dnd5e race has a strong and brave spirit. The dwarves will be remembered for being skilled miners, skilled soldiers, and workers in metal and stone. They were just over 5ft tall, but nearly twice the size of humans. They can compete with any person of similar size in endurance and courage.
Dwarven skin can be deep brown or paler tones that have been tipped with red. The majority of shades are either light browns or deep tan, as certain earth tones. This dwarf’s 5e race’s hair, worn long but in a simple styles, it is usually black, gray, or brown, even though paler dwarves frequently have their head in the red color. Male dwarves love their beards. They also have a good sense of grooming.Be careful.
Long Memory, Long Grudges
These dnd 5e dwarves can be live more than 400 years old, that’s why the oldest living dwarves most often remember the very different world. Some of these oldest dwarves who live in Citadel Felbarr, in The Forgotten Realms can recall the exact date of the conquest of their fortress. They drove them into exile for more than 250 years. Their longevity could give them a glimpse into a world that is more short-lived then the humans and the ha.lflings lack.
Dwarves are strong and durable, just like the mountains they love. Their endurance and strength can withstand time and change. They respect the traditions of their clans. These traditions date back to their childhoods, when they were able establish their ancestral strongholds. Devotion to the gods of the dwarves is one part of these traditions. These are those who support the dwarven ideas, practices, industrious work, skill in combat and devotion. To the forge.
Some dwarves were loyal, determined individuals. They believed in what was said and took actions with determination, sometimes to the point where they became stubborn. Many of those dwarves can have the strong sense of justice, and also they are very slow to forget the wrongs that they have suffered. A wrong done to one of the dwarfs is the wrong done for the dwarf’s entire clan, so what is the begin as a dwarf’s hunt for the vengeance could become a full-blown clan feud.
These are my thoughts. That’s about it for the dwarves. Let me share some personal thoughts before I leave.
Thoughts
So it’s gonna be worth noting outright. The dwarves have one of the most amazing feats in the game. It’s called dwarven fortitude. This raises your constitution score by one. When you take the dodge actions, you can use a hit to heal yourself. You don’t have to take a hit death and can just take the dodge action again. short rest. This feat can be achieved by using a barbarian they also have access to unique barbarian subclass but i don’t know i’ve never met anyone who’s taken it sadly.
I think i had a buddy who played with a gentleman in a one shot but it’s called path of the battle rager it’s got some really cool stuff check out the barbarian class for that from the above given link.
Overall they’re just cool, they’re fun to play as they’re one of the most popular choices in 5e and with good reason they have a lot of benefits and really no downsides. You can make an argument their speed isn’t all that great. You can make an argument that they’re kind of plain. These have many fascinating implications.
That being said. Let me know what you think of the dwarves down beneath in the comment section and because i know you’re gonna ask in terms of what classes work best with them. They’d all be fine. They only need a plus 2 constitution. So it’s not like there’s any class in particular that wouldn’t benefit from constitution you know.
I mean may be if you’re playing a ranged character you wouldn’t need an abundance of constitution. But even i don’t know it’s ll kind of up to interpretation i suppose and play style but overall they’ll work fine with just about anything. I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
