Apple has just published iOS 15.1 along with the macOS Monterey update and iPadOS 15.1 update. iOS 15.1 marks the first major update for Apple since September’s iOS 15. This update adds a variety of new features, including ProRes recording and SharePlay support. There are also other improvements and stability fixes.
iOS 15.1: How do I download it?
Follow these steps to download iOS 15.1 for your iPhone/iPod touch.
- Go to the Settings Panel.
- Open the General tab.
- Click on Software Update.
- Click on “Check for updates” to proceed.
- Once the update is displayed, click on Download and Install.
- The update will now be installed automatically on your device.
NOTE: iOS 15.1 Update has a file size approximately 1.4GB.
What is new?
iOS 15.1 introduces the SharePlay feature. This will let users virtually view TV and movies together via FaceTime. It also lets users stream music from Apple Music and speak with FaceTime contacts.
Users can now share their screens via the new SharePlay function. iOS 15.1 includes an Apple Wallet update that allows you to store a copy COVID-19 vaccine certificates so they are available at public and private places.
iOS 15.1 adds the ProRes video recording feature to the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max. ProRes video codec is an advanced codec that provides better colour fidelity and less compression than traditional codecs. Users can also turn off automatic camera switch when taking macro photographs and videos with the update.
Translate now supports Mandarin Chinese (Taiwan). This feature is also available to be used for system-wide translation. New automation triggers have been added to the updated Home app. Shortcuts also got new actions that allow users to overlay text onto images and GIFs, creating new home automation experiences. A new selection of games is available via Siri.
iOS 15.1 introduces fixes to known issues with Weather, Photos and Wallet apps. iPhone 12 users receive battery algorithm updates that improve the battery’s capacity. Fixed the bug that Wi-Fi networks did not appear in settings.
However, the company has yet to disclose details about security problems that were addressed in the latest update.
