Apple finally began rolling out the macOS Monterey operating systems to eligible Mac computers. Monterey is the successor of last year’s macOS Big Sur and was announced at WWDC 2021. FaceTime updates and a new Safari are part of the latest operating system update. The update also includes handy features such as Universal Control, Focus, and Shortcuts.
Apple promises a smoother experience with macOS Monterey than earlier versions. The company’s new update focuses on multi-device use.
macOS Monterey: What to Download
macOS Monterey can be downloaded as an update for all Macs. Mac Mini (late 2014, late 2015) and MacBook Air (early 2015), are all eligible Mac devices.
Follow these steps to update:
- Go to System Preferences.
- Click the Software Update button.
- For updates, click on “Check for Updates”.
- You will see the macOS Monterey updates. To update, click on Update.
- Your Mac will now automatically download and install the update.
What is new?
macOS Monterey focuses on minor tweaks and improvements that improve the user experience. Universal Control allows users to sync Apple products such as the iPad, iPhone and Apple Pencil. AirPlay is now available for Mac users with the update.
FaceTime now supports spatial audio with Monterey. FaceTime now has a Grid View that automatically highlights who is talking. A new SharePlay feature has also been added.
New Safari browser offers an easier interface with Tab Groups. It also seamlessly syncs across devices for a seamless workflow. Shortcuts works in the same way as its iPhone or iPad counterparts.
