D&D Shipwright Background D&D Simic Scientist Background Firearm Specialist Feat 5E Metabolic Control (UA) DnD 5E Feat Piercer (UA) DnD 5E Feat Gunner (UA) DnD 5E Feat DnD 5E Wild Talent Feat

All adventures welcome. Welcome to my spellbook. We appreciate that you are checking out the 38th episode from our feats series. Today, we’ll be looking at one the most underutilized feats of the game. It’s i’m gonna used for a couple reasons and i’ll get to that a little bit more later on. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at 5e feat of a mounted combatant. It has found in the player’s handbook. So everyone’s at least gazed over this a few times but you know for the most part they’ve decided it wasn’t. What wouldn’t work for their character basically. In any case let’s take a look at the description to kind understand what that might be.

Description

It is important to note that there are no prerequisites. It is open to all classes, races, and skill sets. This is the description.

As a Mounted Combatant DnD 5E Feat you’re in a dangerous foe to face while to be mounted. Even though while you’re mounted and also are not incapacitated, you can gain the below mentioned benefits too.

  • To gain an advantage when attacking unmounted creatures that are smaller than your mount with melee attacks, you can use Mounted Combatant.
  • An attack on your mount may be forced at you.
  • Your mount will only take half-damage if it is affected by an effect that allows them make a Dexterity saving throw. If they fail, it can take only half-damage.

Wow that’s a mouthful there. Here is a quick reminder about the incapacitated description. You’re incapacitated you can’t take any actions or reactions so. It kind of makes sense why you wouldn’t be able to operate a mount while you’re not conscious at least in my mind that makes sense. Anyways let’s take a quick look at the walkthrough here and kind of break this down. Let’s continue.

Walkthrough

So, first and foremost of the advantage mainly when your mound is bigger than the person you’re combat with. Remember that horses can be large and will often be used for riding. Or will be at the very least one class bigger than most other things. Some exceptions will apply. Note that this probably wouldn’t work against other mounted creatures unless you were to knock them off. It is possible.

This allows you to force the second point. You can redirect attacks from your mount to yourself. It doesn’t require you to redirect attacks to your mount. You can also make dex saves to reduce half of the damage. You take full damage if you fail. If your mount succeeds you do not take any damage. If your mount fails, you only take half of the damage.

This is a kind of failure feat. In any case no worries i’ll explain that a little bit more. With all that being said let’s take a look at my personal thoughts.

Thoughts

This feat is amazing. It’s amazing. There are two reasons why you should use it. You made it easier to kill smaller creatures. That’s awesome. Especially when you factor in that a lot of the heaviest damaging classes gained so much from advantage and if you’re an elf with elven accuracy and i’m lucky you’ll basically like never miss honestly it is. It would be incredible. However, it is possible. This is wonderful.

The damage from the second bullet hitting the arina is equivalent to nothing. This damage is more targeted at increasing survival than any other. So if you look at the actual wording it doesn’t say that the attack target at your round has to target you. So if it’s a spell attack aimed at your mount. They could probably tank through it if you happen to know it’s a dex save.

Honestly it’s a safer bet to have your mountain take it or not. This is for survival. Who is the biggest beneficiary? I would say that sneak attack is a benefit to rogues. Rogues could also serve as battle masters. Clerics would also benefit from mobility.

Yeah! i can’t think of a whole lot of classes who would not benefit from this as matter of fact. It is not much. I mean maybe monks wouldn’t benefit a ton from this, a lot of ranged characters might not as well. Just because of that melee attack roll component there and they’re not gonna take a lot of shots anyway. This is why it may not work for all classes. It would be hilarious, I believe. You’ll need to have your DMs approved.

Conclusion

That’s it, guys! If you have any alternative uses for dnd 5e mounted Combatant, any cool combo is there any cool stories you have. Leave a comment below. You will enjoy them as much as I do. Many thanks, guys. Have a great day!
