PAN cardholders can make out fake cards from real: Here’s how

After fraud cases increased over the last few years, the addition of QR codes to PAN card ID was initiated. A QR code is embedded in all PAN cards issued after July 2018. A QR Code embedded on the PAN Card identifies both the real and fake PAN. A smartphone or an app from the Income Tax Department is all that’s required.

You can use the 10 digits on your PAN card to open a bank, purchase or sell property or file an ITR. Also, it allows you to buy and sell jewelry over Rs 2 lakh. Many fake PAN card cases are now on the rise.

This is how to determine if your PAN card has been forged or genuine.

STEP 1: First, you must go to the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal.

STEP 2: Click on the link to verify your PAN details on the right-hand side.

STEP 3: Users will need to complete the PAN card information (How to verify pan card details).

STEP4: Here you’ll find information regarding the PAN number and the complete name of the PAN cardholder as well as his birth date.

STEP5: Once you have filled in all the information correctly, the portal will display a message confirming that the information corresponds with the PAN card.

STEP6: This will allow you to easily determine the authenticity of your PAN card.
