Description
You will see a flickering flame in your hands after you use Produce Flame 5E. You would have the flame in your hand for a specific time. It will not damage your equipment or you. The flame would glow brighter for 10 feet, and dimmer for 10 feet. If you dismiss the spell as an action or cast it again, the spell will expire.

You can use the flame to attack but it will also end the dnd Produce Flame spell. The flame can be thrown at any creature located within 30 feet of your location if this spell is cast or another action taken on a subsequent round. You can also make a ranged attack. For a hit, the target will take 1d8 of fire damage.
Higher levels
This spell’s damage actually increases by 1d8 whenever you reach 5th level the damage increases by 2d8, at 11th level 3d8 and at 17th level the damage will be 4d8.

Other uses
This spell cannot be used to kill more than one creature. Any creature can be targeted by the flame. So that includes lighting campfires, lighting torches as you’re working your way down a dungeons. So you don’t get lost and all the sneaks up behind you or burning down a potential building should you need to.
