WhatsApp has introduced new incentives to encourage users to migrate to their Payments Platform. Recently, the messaging app was approved to allow payments to be made to more than 100 million Indian users. WhatsApp Payments, a UPI-based payment system, is now integrated in the messaging platform.

The Meta-owned app will offer cashback to attract more users to WhatsApp Payments. BGR.in was told by a WhatsApp spokesperson that the cashback option will be introduced in phases. You may be able to get cashback if you were one of those users who tried the Payments feature. According to the company, the goal is for the next 500 millions Indians to join the digital payment ecosystem.

WhatsApp spokeswoman said that they are offering cashback in phases to users to help unlock WhatsApp’s potential to pay. We believe that digital payments are an essential part of India’s growth. As part of our larger efforts to reach the next 500 millions Indians, we will continue to promote payments via WhatsApp.

Reuters had previously reported that cashback could be offered to users in the form of a rebate. WhatsApp claims it will offer Rs 33 cashback for payments made via the payment option.

This cashback is not limited to the transaction amount. Cashback will be distributed across three transactions. WhatsApp will consider transactions below Re 1 valid.

WhatsApp Cashback: How do you get it?

You will need to first send cash to a WhatsApp Contact who is registered to receive payments via WhatsApp India. You’ll notice a gift icon beside your contact’s name if they have registered on WhatsApp for payment. You will not see the gift icon next your contact’s names if they haven’t registered for payments via WhatsApp. If this happens, invite them to sign up on WhatsApp to start receiving Rs 11 cashback.

Android Smartphones

Open WhatsApp, tap on More Options > Payments > Send a New Payment

Tap on the contact to which you wish to send money. You’ll notice a gift icon beside their names if they are registered to pay on WhatsApp. You will need to invite your contacts to sign up for payments via WhatsApp before you send them money.

Enter the amount in rupees you wish to send. Tap Next, tap Pay Payment and enter your UPI PIN.

You can also open the chat with the person to whom you wish to send money. Tap Next, tap the Send Payment button and enter your UPI PIN.

For iPhones

Open WhatsApp, tap Payments > Send New payment.

Tap on the contact to which you wish to send money. You’ll notice a gift icon beside their names if they are registered to pay on WhatsApp. You will need to invite your contacts to sign up for payments via WhatsApp, if you do not see the gift icon beside their name you can send them money.

Enter the amount in rupees you wish to send. Tap Next, tap Pay Payment and enter your UPI PIN.

You can also open the chat with the person to whom you wish to send money. Tap Next, tap the Send Payment button and enter your UPI PIN.
